THE FACTS & FIGURES
ORAL EXAMS
Your mouth says a lot about your health. The American Academy of General Dentistry found that nearly 90% of all diseases can be diagnosed from a regular oral exam. Children and adults should see their dentist for a cleaning and check up every six months.
CHRONIC DISEASE
Poor oral health is a significant risk factor for chronic health problems. People with gum disease are twice as likely to have heart disease. Oral health is linked to many other serious conditions, including diabetes and stroke. Prevention starts with regular dental exams.
GUM DISEASE
It’s more common than you think. 30% to 50% of American adults have mild to moderate gum disease. Left untreated, this can lead to serious dental and general health problems.
ORAL CANCER
36,500 new cases of cancer of the mouth and throat are diagnosed annually. The 5-year survival rate for these cancers is only about 50%, but early detection through regular dental check-ups improves the survival rate.
