Kyle Johnstone
Hygienist
Kyle Johnstone started his dental career in the United States Navy as a Dental Technician, being trained as a Dental Assistant and Dental Lab Tech. He spent his one enlistment on the USS Ronald Reagan, deploying once to the Persian Gulf on the aircraft carrier based out of San Diego at that time. Shortly after leaving the Navy, Kyle worked as an assistant before entering Dental Hygiene school at Pacific University. Within one week of graduating from Dental Hygiene school, Kyle started the Masters of Healthcare Administration program at Pacific University. Kyle worked full-time with Willamette Dental as a hygienist and piloted restorative hygiene in the pediatric dental setting while in grad school. This is also when he transitioned to the management team at Willamette Dental Group. After a few years with Willamette, he started with Virginia Garcia (VG) Memorial Health Center. At the time he transitioned, VG was building a dental clinic in Newberg. Kyle managed the McMinnville and Newberg VG Dental Clinics while also providing hygiene services to patients in Newberg, as a Dental Operations Manager. During his four-year tenure with VG, Kyle also spent a few terms as adjunct faculty at Pacific University helping students hone their restorative skills in the dental hygiene program and on accompanied students on a medical service trip to Nicaragua. Armed with a desire to utilize more of his Healthcare Administration degree, Kyle accepted the role of Clinic Manager at Providence Medical Group in Hillsboro, Oregon. Kyle learned much about medical operations and helped improve the culture of the office during his time there. He often missed his experiences in dentistry and when an opportunity arose to practice tele-dentistry with the Capitol Dental Care team and help structure a growing outreach program, Kyle was eager to help. With Capitol Dental, Kyle provided both program support and independent dental hygiene services in their Outreach program at a medical center and homeless resource center. He also helped develop and streamline many policies and workflows while training other clinicians on how to most effectively practice tele-dentistry. Next stop was with Clackamas County Dental. Kyle fulfilled the role of Dental Clinic Operations Manager, managing four clinics and building out one before COVID shut things down. For the last almost two years, Kyle has been working for a dentist friend helping him run operations and providing dental hygiene care to patients. While in administration or when fulfilling a hybrid role has been rewarding and challenging, Kyle confesses that he finds the most joy in his work when delivering care directly to patients. He comes to us at Onsite Dental passionate and ready to do just that. Kyle spends his free time with his wife and five children, learning about cars and motorcycles, and lifting weights with friends.
